Marie Jeanne Ship Model
This Model boat comes flat packed with instructions for Mast & Sails to be assemble only. This is a classical Tuna fishing vessel, which made its appearance in the fishing ports of La Rochelle and Sables d’Olonne on the Bay of Biscay. Eighteen eighty-three was a terrible year for the fishing fleet with frequent Atlantic storms, causing the loss of both ships and lives of hard working touch French fishermen.
A well-known owner, Pierre Baron, had the idea of transforming the standard model of the Tuna ships into the shape of the Marie Jeanne. He was so successful, that all the fishermen began to transform their vessels to his design. Prices for the construction of this ship rose from fourteen thousand francs in nineteen-fourteen to three hundred thousand francs in nineteen-thirty seven.
