Friesland Waterline Model Ship

The Friesland was a part of the Great Fleet of the United Province of Holland. It was built with 80 guns around 1663.and consisted of 1700 units. In 1672 it sided with 77 vessels under De Ruyters command and took part in the battle of Solebay with the Allied Anglo-French forces. The ship whose hull was carved out of wood is particularly noted for the refinements on her poop deck decorations and her superstructure.

Friesland: The Battle of Solebay

The battle of Solebay was a naval battle that took place between Dutch fleet and the Anglo-French fleet. It was the first naval battle of the Third Anglo-Dutch War. A fleet of 77 ships of the United Provinces of Holland, commanded by De Ruyters and others surprised a joint Anglo-French fleet of 93 ships at anchor in Solebay near Southwold in Suffolk on the east coast of England. During the battle the wind shifted and the English gained advantage forcing the Dutch to withdraw around late afternoon.

The battle ended inconclusively as both sides took heavy damage. However, the Anglo-French plans of blocking the Dutch fleet did not come through. Both sides met again in 1673 at the Battle of Schooneveld.

After a Dutch company told me they were no longer taking orders, a Chinese company did not respond and an American one did not offer the desired finish, I ended up at Premier Ship Models in January 2024. I opted for a premium finish from 6-8 months for the build of a 1990 Hinkley Sou'wester. With nothing more than a top view and a side view and a lot of photos they got to work. 9 times I got an update with photos to assess the progress and make comments. I happily made a photo album of this. I asked for quite a few corrections, which were all carried out. The only downside was a huge underestimation of the shipping costs. But the ship was very well packed and delivered in September. The sailing ship had suffered a bit on the journey, but I was able to repair that easily, except for the downhaul - it was too simple and would break off again immediately. I left that out (it would still be nice to receive a "real life" version). The correspondence was very good, my sincere thanks to the team for the great job!

The first time I used Premier Ship Models was for a kit of the Batavia, this year. (2024). I was so happy with the service that when I was looking at getting the 'ghost ship' The Flying Dutchman, I checked around online and was extremely pleased to find they had it. Not only that but they were cheaper than other model ship kit suppliers I have used in the past. And again, on top of that it only took 8 days to get from placing the order in the UK to having FedEx deliver it on my doorstep in Western Australia. To put that into perspective, I am still awaiting delivery via Australia Post for some parts from Sydney NSW, three separate orders placed 15 days ago.... Extremely satisfied and would recommend them to anyone.

Premier Ship Models did a great job of finding the kit I was after, an Aeronaut Pilot boat. Once found, it shipped quickly, but was held up in customs. Premier reached out to me and customs, and I received the kit a few days later. Premier is now one of my go-tos for European and Asian rc ship models.
