Description
A Ship That Couldn’t Sink?
That’s the irony of Titanic! The ship was hailed unsinkable due to its design and safety features. With 16 compartments in the hull, whose doors could shut with the flick of a switch, it was considered an engineering marvel. The in-charges of the voyage had so much faith in its ‘unsinkability’ that they could not believe the news of its sinking! However, it was a promotional attempt to attract the who’s who of the time. What caught mass attention was the grandiosity and luxurious interiors of the ship.
Appallingly, hitting the ‘tip’ of the iceberg is all it took for the majestic vessel to lose its ‘unsinkable’ status on the 4th day of her only voyage. Carrying hundreds of passengers with an aggregate wealth of over $500 million in 1912, the ship turned into an inspiration for many. Filmmakers, authors, and divers were all obsessed with the vessel. Still are! So much so that the Australian billionaire Clive Palmer wants to replicate the history (only the majestic part of it!) by making Titanic – II. He claims this one will complete its journey.
What is the Most Realistic Titanic model?
Titanic Fans, whether due to James Cameron’s movie or the vessel’s history, have always fancied owning one. Owning the real one is a tad bit expensive; ask Mr. Palmer. Therefore, enthusiasts and collectors look for Titanic replica models as close to the original as possible. Wooden or metal, these are created to perfection with craftsmen’s expertise.
At the time of writing this (July 2024), the most realistic Titanic replica model sits at the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. With 40,000 individual pieces replicating every detail to 1/200th scale of the original, it is considered the most precise model of the Titanic ship.
