Description
Jolie Brise Model Yacht
The Jolie Brise was built with the intention of serving as a pilot vessel in the beginning. This yacht is a gaff rigged pilot cutter designed by Alexandre Paris. She was launched in 1913 at Le Havre by the Albert Paumelle Yard.
This was the largest pilot cutter built by Monsieur Paumelle for high speed and ease of sailing. It was unusual at the time but she was built to plans. She had a short career as a pilot boat after which she was used for the purpose of fishing by her owners.
Jolie Brise: Some Details of the Vessel
This yacht has an overall length of 56 ft. Her waterline length stands at 48 ft. She has a beam of 15 ft 9 in and a draught of 10ft 2 in. She was bought by E.G. Martin and refitted in 1923. In August 1925, she won her first fastnet race form seven starters. Martin sold the Joile Brise in 1927 to Captain Warren Ferrier and his partner W.B.Smith.
The yacht kept on changing many hands of owners until she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy during the World War II. She was laid up in the mud in Shoreham. In 1977 Dauntsey’s School Sailing Club bought the Jolie Brise.
