Ready Made
Display cases supplied fully assembled, ready to lift into place over your model. The simplest option if you would rather not build anything and the case can be delivered easily to where it is needed.
Ready made cases arrive complete. The acrylic is already bonded, the base is fitted and finished, and the only job left is to unpack it, remove the protective film and place it over the model.
When this is the right choice
For a standard sized model going onto a shelf, mantelpiece or cabinet, in a room with straightforward access. Nothing to assemble means nothing to align badly, and the finish is consistent across the whole case.
Where it is not
An assembled case is a large, rigid item. The bigger sizes cost more to ship and need a clear route into the room. If access is tight, if the case is going upstairs, or if the model is over about a metre long, flat pack is the better option and usually the cheaper one.
Materials
Clear acrylic on a finished timber base, with the base colour chosen to suit the model and the room. Acrylic is used in preference to glass because it is lighter to lift, safer if knocked and clearer for photography.
Measuring
Take the model’s greatest length including bowsprit, greatest height including masts and stand, and greatest width including yards, then allow clearance on every side. Common questions
Is the base included?
On most ready made cases, yes. Cover-only options exist for models already on a plinth, and the listing states which you are buying.
How do I clean the acrylic?
A soft cloth and a cleaner made for acrylic. Household glass cleaners and abrasive cloths will haze the surface permanently.
Can I order one at the same time as a model?
Yes, and it is worth doing. If you are buying a ready made model we can advise on the right case size for it.
