A commissioned merchant model has to match the ship as delivered, not the type: hull colour and boot topping, funnel mark, name and port of registry, draught marks, load line, accommodation block, cranes and deck arrangement.
Deck arrangement by type
- Tankers: manifolds, pipework, catwalks, valve detail and vapour lines
- Bulk carriers: hatch covers, cranes, grabs and hopper arrangement
- Container ships: hatch covers, lashing bridges, cell guides and stacked containers in the correct line colours
- Gas carriers: tank domes, insulation profiles and the distinctive deck silhouette
- Heavy lift and project vessels: cranes, open decks and cargo arrangement
Working from plans
General arrangement and capacity plans give the best result. Where they are unavailable we build from photographs and published vessel data. Open hull and cutaway builds are possible where the model needs to show structure or capacity rather than just profile.
Presentation
Most commercial models are built waterline for a sea base or case, which suits desk display and keeps a long hull manageable. Full hull on a cradle is available. Fleet sets to a common scale, engraved plates and fitted cases can be produced alongside.

Common questions
Can the containers carry our own line’s colours?
Yes, including mixed stacks with leasing company colours if you want it realistic rather than uniform.
Can you build a fleet to one scale?
Yes, and it becomes more economical per vessel once the first models are underway.
